I don’t see anything wrong with LaRubia’s strategy. She probably wouldn’t respect someone who made less money than her and that is her choice. Few women who are professional white-collar types would seriously consider dating someone who made far less money than themselves because they don’t respect those men. She doesn’t seem to want to take advantage of a man and on the west coast there are many educated men who likely do make more money than her.
Why wouldn’t money be at least one factor she looks for in a man? Is being attracted to money any more superficial than being attracted to good looks?
